Have you ever wondered how you can do simple things every day to make the earth happy? Sounds silly, but we have distanced ourselves too much from nature and we need to get back there!

Sustainability Made Simple by Rosaly Byrd and Lauren Demates is the book to have on hand to learn about nature and human inter-relatedness and take what you read and try out different ways to be more green. It starts with going through the very simple ways in which our actions affect water, air, and basically everything around us! It then helps us find ways to make more sustainable choices in our lives.

I thought I knew as much as a person trying to live green for years now, but I learned from this book. I think everyone can benefit, from those who are novices to leaving a smaller footprint to those of us 'green scholars' who want to share our knowledge with all who will listen!

It is a great book to have around to spur discussion at your next dinner party or create ways in which families and businesses can change they way they think and do thinks. We all can and should try our best to leave this planet as clean and happy as we can, small changes make an impact, and those simple acts add up. Don't underestimate the effect picking up stray litter you see or opting for letting your produce roll around your shopping basket without individual plastic bags or walking once a week to a local store instead of driving the few blocks.

Oh, I could go on. But let me say that you can find inspiration all around you of nature that thrives despite our urbanization, little plants growing in between the sidewalk bricks, animals living and breeding in our yards (a robin just hatched her young in a nest in our evergreen!!).

Be the Change. I believe in you.

  4. We recycle A LOT! We actually need another recycle bin. Ours gets overflowing because we recycle so much.
